Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) has assisted the Ministry of Energy of the Government of Malawi as the Fund Manager of the Malawi Off-Grid Market Development Fund (OGMDF) to develop the solar market. In order to solve the difficulties of expanding the off-grid market, IDCOL will operationalize the USD 20 million financing window by providing debt financing as working capital assistance, grant facilities to give end-user subsidies, and Market Catalyst Fund to promote the local businesses.

The Malawi Electricity Access Project, financed by The World Bank, aims to electrify 200,000 new households in remote rural villages. The Solar Home Systems (SHSs) will provide affordable electricity to underserved and harder-to-reach segments of the population, by engaging the local off-grid solar companies in Malawi.

On March 10, 2023, in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, Mr. Ibrahim Matola, Minister of Energy for the Government of Malawi, officially inaugurated the Fund. The session was attended by Mr. Hugh Ridell, the Country Manager of The World Bank in Malawi, as well as high-ranking representatives of the Ministry, The World Bank, and private sector stakeholders. Mr. Ashraf Hossain Bhuiyan, AVP, IDCOL, delivered the keynote paper addressing various features of the Fund on behalf of the Fund Management. During the program, the businesses also showed solar products that would be used in the project.

In a message, Mr. Alamgir Morshed, Executive Director & CEO of IDCOL extended his heartiest congratulations to the Government of Malawi for successfully launching the OGMDF. Through the OGMDF, we are glad to collaborate with the Malawi Government and promote the growth of the off-grid market. According to Mr. Morshed, "Our effort will help people living in remote areas of Malawi live better lives since we believe that access to electricity is a fundamental right. Based on our expertise in implementing renewable energy projects in Bangladesh, we are eager to support the Ministry of Energy, Malawi in implementing this project that will supplement the Government of Malawi’s target of universal electricity access by 2030".

Notably, strategic advisory services are provided by IDCOL in Bangladesh and overseas using its experience in project finance, financial analysis, financial modeling, project management, and corporate advisory services. Throughout the past few years, IDCOL has competed against prominent local and international consultancy firms for noteworthy domestic and international assignments to provide advisory services.

Infrastructure Development Company Ltd (Idcol) provided concessionary loan and technical support for implementing the project, said a press release.

The project was inaugurated on Wednesday, (1 February) where senior officials from Idcol and Akij Group were present.

The project equipment includes solar panels from Trina Solar and inverters from Huawei, China. It is expected to generate 2.76 GWh of electricity every year.

Janata Jute Mills Ltd will consume almost entire generation from the project and export any excess electricity to the national grid through net-metering arrangement.

Janata Jute Mills Ltd, a concern of Akij Group, has implemented a 2.40 MWp rooftop solar project financed by Infrastructure Development Company Ltd (IDCOL) at Boalmari, Faridpur.

Along with the concessionary loan, IDCOL also provided technical support for implementing the project, said a press release.

The project was inaugurated on Wednesday, where senior officials from IDCOL and Akij Group were present.

The project equipment includes solar panels from Trina Solar and inverters from Huawei in China. It is expected to generate 2.76 GWh of electricity every year.

Janata Jute Mills Ltd will consume almost an entire generation from the project and export any excess electricity to the national grid through a Net-Metering arrangement.

IDCOL was established on May 14, 1997, by the government, later, the company was licensed by the Bangladesh Bank as a non-bank financial institution (NBFI) on 5 January 1998.

Since its inception, IDCOL has been playing a major role in bridging the financing gap for developing medium to large-scale infrastructure and renewable energy projects in Bangladesh. The company now stands as the market leader in private-sector energy and infrastructure financing in Bangladesh.

IDCOL is managed by an eight-member independent board of directors comprising four senior government officials, three representatives from the private sector and a full-time executive director and chief executive officer.

It has a small and multi-skilled workforce comprising financial and market analysts, engineers, lawyers, IT experts, accountants and environmental and social safeguard specialists. Infrastructure Development Company Ltd (IDCOL) recently signed a long-term loan facility agreement of Tk5.79 crore with Rancon Infrastructures & Engineering Ltd (RIEL) to finance their second rooftop solar project. 

Under the Project, RIEL will install 1.0 MWp solar PV system on the factory rooftops of Rancon Electronics Ltd (REL) and Rancon Auto Industries Ltd (RAIL) located at Boro Bhabanipur of Gazipur's Kashimpur, said a press release.

Alamgir Morshed, executive director and CEO of IDCOL, and Mashid Rahman Abir, managing director of RIEL, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations. 

Speaking on the occasion, Alamgir Morshed said, "Rancon Group is doing a fantastic job of contributing to the economy of Bangladesh. Their rooftop solar projects will encourage others to focus on green energy sources. 

"To promote rooftop solar projects, IDCOL not only provides concessionary loan facilities but also technical assistance to its borrowers."

(RIEL) to finance their second rooftop solar project recently. Under the Project, RIEL will install 1.0 MWp solar PV system on the factory rooftops of Rancon Electronics Ltd. (REL) and Rancon Auto Industries Ltd. (RAIL) located at Boro Bhabanipur, Kashimpur, Gazipur.

Under the project, the Rancon will install a 1-megawatt peak solar power system on the rooftops of the factory of Rancon Electronics and Rancon Auto Industries located at Boro Bhabanipur in Kashimpur of Gazipur.

A signing ceremony of a long-term loan facility was held between Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) and BRAC University at the BRAC Centre in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Under this facility, BRAC University will avail long-term financing of up to Tk 4.5 billion from IDCOL for the construction of its new campus located at Badda in Dhaka.

Brac University signed an agreement with Infrastructure Development Company Limited (Idcol) yesterday for a term loan facility.

Under the facility, the university will avail Tk 450 crore for the construction of its new campus in the capital's Badda.
