IDCOL, Bangladesh Tea Association plans to set solar power plants in tea estates
A recent meeting between Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) and the Bangladesh Tea Association has focused on plans to establish solar power plants in the tea estates of Sylhet and Chattogram.
The discussion highlighted the potential use of approximately 284 acres of unused land within tea gardens for solar installations, according to a press release.
The meeting, chaired by Association Chairman Kamran T Rahman, was held on 20 November 205 at the Association’s office in Mohakhali DOHS, Dhaka.
Key attendees included IDCOL’s Executive Director & CEO Alamgir Morshed, Head of Renewable Energy Department Md Enamul Karim Pavel, and Mohammad Wahidur Rahman, Head of Technical Unit Renewable Energy, along with representatives from the Bangladesh Tea Association: Wahidul Haque, Ziaul Ahsan, Mustafizur Rahman, and Dr Kazi Muzaffar Ahmed.
During the meeting, IDCOL was requested to conduct site visits at tea gardens to assess the feasibility of establishing solar power plants.
Emphasizing IDCOL’s strategic commitment, Alamgir Morshed said, “IDCOL will work closely with tea estates to tap the solar power potential and remains committed to accelerating Bangladesh’s transition to clean energy through financing renewable energy, energy efficiency, and infrastructure projects.”
So far, IDCOL has financed 192 MW of rooftop solar installations nationwide and maintains a strong record in renewable energy, having financed 271 MW across six solar power plants.
As a key national entity for channeling domestic and international climate finance, IDCOL supports organisations such as the World Bank, KfW, USAID, JICA, and the GCF.
The institution continues to play a crucial role in improving energy efficiency, particularly in energy-intensive sectors such as textiles and the Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry.
Through these initiatives, IDCOL is contributing toward achieving Bangladesh’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and renewable energy targets, supporting the country’s vision for a greener and more resilient future.

মতবিনিময় সভায় ইডকলকে চা বাগান পরিদর্শন করে সৌরবিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্র স্থাপনের সম্ভাব্যতা যাচাই করার অনুরোধ জানানো হয়। এ সময় ইডকল-এর নির্বাহী পরিচালক ও প্রধান নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা আলমগীর মোরসেদ বলেন, ‘ইডকল বাংলাদেশ চা সমিতির সঙ্গে ঘনিষ্ঠভাবে কাজ করবে এবং সৌরবিদ্যুতের সম্ভাবনা কাজে লাগাতে এবং নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানি, জ্বালানি দক্ষতা ও অবকাঠামো প্রকল্পে অর্থায়নের মাধ্যমে বাংলাদেশের পরিচ্ছন্ন জ্বালানিতে রূপান্তরকে ত্বরান্বিত করতে প্রতিশ্রুতিবদ্ধ।’
এ পর্যন্ত ইডকল সারা দেশে ১৯২ মেগাওয়াট রুফটপ সৌরবিদ্যুৎ প্রকল্পে অর্থায়ন করেছে এবং ৬টি সৌরবিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্রে মোট ২৭১ মেগাওয়াট অর্থায়নের সফল রেকর্ড রয়েছে। বিশ্বব্যাংক, কে-এফ-ডব্লিউ, ইউএসএআইডি, জাইকা ও জিসিএফসহ আন্তর্জাতিক উন্নয়ন সহযোগীদের অর্থায়ন চ্যানেলিংয়ে ইডকল একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ জাতীয় প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে কাজ করছে। বিশেষ করে টেক্সটাইল ও তৈরি পোশাক শিল্পের মতো জ্বালানি-নিবিড় খাতে জ্বালানি দক্ষতা বৃদ্ধিতে ইডকল গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখছে।

The Infrastructure Development Company Limited (Idcol) and the Bangladesh Tea Association (BTA) are planning to set up solar power plants in tea estates across Greater Sylhet and Chattogram.
Officials from both organisations held discussions on utilising approximately 284 acres of unused land within tea gardens for the proposed solar installations.
Kamran T Rahman, chairman of the Bangladesh Tea Association, chaired the meeting held recently at the association's office in Mohakhali DOHS, Dhaka, according to a press release.
During the meeting, the BTA requested Idcol to conduct site visits to assess the feasibility of establishing solar power plants in the tea gardens.
Alamgir Morshed, executive director and CEO of Idcol, highlighted the organisation's strategic commitment, saying, "Idcol will work closely with tea estates to tap their solar power potential and remains committed to accelerating Bangladesh's transition to clean energy through financing renewable energy, energy efficiency, and infrastructure projects."
So far, Idcol has financed 192 megawatts (MW) of rooftop solar installations across the country and has a strong track record in renewable energy, having financed 271 MW across six solar power plants.

The Association requested IDCOL to conduct site assessments across selected estates.The collaboration between IDCOL and BUET aims to develop a globally recognised testing facility in Bangladesh. Once ISO-certified, the lab will also support carbon credit registration for clean cooking projects nationwide.

The organisation said such investments will support Bangladesh's Nationally Determined Contributions and renewable-energy targets, contributing to a greener and more resilient energy future.
BRAC to install 4.06-Megawatt solar power systems across 32 facilities
To promote the use of renewable energy, BRAC will install solar power systems across 32 of its facilities. Supported by the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), the initiative will generate a total of 4.06 megawatts of electricity.
Jointly financed by BRAC and IDCOL, the project will see solar power systems installed at 32 BRAC facilities in 21 districts across Bangladesh. Each system’s capacity will be determined by the facility’s size and function, with some producing up to 511 kilowatts of electricity. IDCOL is providing technical assistance to support the project.
A signing ceremony for this initiative was held at the BRAC Centre in Mohakhali, Dhaka, on Monday, 10 November 2025. Asif Saleh, Executive Director of BRAC, and Alamgir Morshed, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of IDCOL, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
Also present at the event were Md. Enamul Karim Pavel, Head of Renewable Energy; and Md. Ashaduzzaman, Assistant Vice President, Renewable Energy Projects from IDCOL; as well as Sabbir Ahmed, Chief Financial Officer; and Md. Liakath Ali, Director, Climate Change, Urban Development, and Disaster Risk Management, from BRAC.
Through this project, BRAC, along with BRAC Enterprises, Ayesha Abed Foundation, and BRAC University, is advancing towards the wider adoption of renewable energy. In line with the government’s Net Metering Policy, any surplus electricity generated will be supplied to the national grid, enabling BRAC to receive credits or financial benefits.

The distinction recognizes IDCOL’s role in co-financing the 68 MW (AC) Sirajganj Solar Power Project developed by Bangladesh-China Renewable Energy Company Limited (BCREL). Under a 20-year PPA with BPDB, the project supplies clean power to the national grid; IDCOL’s financing commitment is up to US$55 million via a syndicated arrangement.
The Sirajganj plant is engineered for climate resilience, featuring elevated substation and operating zones (16 m above mean sea level), perimeter embankments, and resilient pile structures, and is projected to avoid ~73,835 tCO?e annually. Built on 214 acres of previously barren land, the project complied with World Bank ESS, AIIB ESF, and IDCOL ESSF; the developer undertook stakeholder consultations, fair compensation for transmission-line impacts, and a 3:1 compensatory tree-planting commitment. The project created 200–400 construction jobs and ~50 permanent roles.

IDCOL has co-financed the project with around US$55m through a syndicated arrangement. This agreement is expected to support the supply of clean electricity to the national grid, with the project operating under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with the Bangladesh Power Development Board.
Developed by Bangladesh-China Renewable Energy Company Limited, the Sirajganj Solar Power Project exemplifies the potential of solar to drive Bangladesh’s low-carbon growth path. The project is set to displace fossil fuel-based generation, which is then expected to result in the reduction of approximately 73,835 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per year.
The solar park incorporates robust design features, including an elevated substation and operational zones built to 16 metres above mean sea level, perimeter embankments, and resilient pile structures. These innovations are going to ensure reliable year-round operation despite climate-related risks, setting a model for future solar installations in vulnerable regions.
Built on 214 acres of previously barren land, it also complies with international ESG and environmental & social standards whilst ensuring fair stakeholder engagement and compensatory tree planting. It has also created about 400 construction jobs and 50 permanent positions.

BRAC Bank, Idcol finance $67 million solar project
RAC Bank PLC and Infrastructure Development Company Limited (Idcol) have jointly financed a 64.55 megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Pabna, operated by Bangladesh China Renewable Energy Company Limited (BCRECL).
The two institutions completed a $67 million term loan facility, with BRAC Bank contributing S$22 million and Idcol $45 million, according to a press release issued today.
The plant, among the largest in the country, has already begun supplying electricity to the national grid, marking a significant step in Bangladesh's transition toward sustainable growth.
BCRECL is a joint venture between North-West Power Generation Company Limited and China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation.
BRAC Bank CEO Tarek Refat Ullah Khan said the project demonstrates the strength of public-private partnerships in sustainable infrastructure.

বাংলাদেশ সরকারের আওতাধীন নর্থ-ওয়েস্ট পাওয়ার জেনারেশন কোম্পানি লিমিটেড (এনডব্লিউপিজিসিএল) এবং চায়না ন্যাশনাল মেশিনারি ইমপোর্ট অ্যান্ড এক্সপোর্ট করপোরেশনের (সিএমসি) একটি যৌথ উদ্যোগ বাংলাদেশ চায়না রিনিউয়েবল এনার্জি কোম্পানি লিমিটেড। প্রতিষ্ঠানটি দেশের একাধিক সোলার পাওয়ার প্ল্যান্ট পরিচালনা করছে।

Financing Bangladesh’s clean energy future with IDCOL powering the transition
At Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), we have long recognised that financing is the cornerstone of renewable energy growth. A significant challenge for many developers is meeting the high upfront capital requirements for clean energy projects. At IDCOL, we address this by designing financial products that make renewable energy projects more bankable and attractive to investors. To date, we have financed nearly 50% of Bangladesh's renewable energy capacity — over 650 MW — including 167 MWp of industrial rooftop solar, 206 MWp of grid-tied utility-scale projects, and 40 MWp of solar irrigation systems.
Our approach centres on providing long-term concessional financing to private sector developers, allowing solar projects in Bangladesh to become viable and profitable investments. The sharp decline in solar technology costs, combined with pragmatic government policies such as reduced import barriers for key equipment, has made solar one of the most cost-effective energy solutions today. Particularly, the industrial rooftop solar segment has grown significantly in recent years, demonstrating the transformative potential of clean energy.
To sustain this momentum, IDCOL actively conducts awareness and capacity-building programmes for all stakeholders — including financial institutions — to encourage greater participation from commercial banks and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) in renewable energy financing. Looking ahead, we have set an ambitious target: to finance 6 GWp of renewable energy projects over the next five years. This pipeline spans industrial and domestic rooftop solar, solar installations on government buildings, merchant power plants, grid-tied projects, and solar irrigation pumps. Waste-to-energy and wind power projects also remain key priorities. Importantly, we offer financing in local currency, making investments far more accessible for domestic developers.
We are also working with leading multilateral development partners to introduce payment guarantee schemes that ensure competitive financing for renewable projects. IDCOL is developing its own guarantee mechanisms to encourage broader participation from commercial lenders. As Bangladesh's Direct Access Entity (DAE) of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), we already channel concessional climate finance to the textile and garment industries to enable their green transformation. Beyond traditional loans, we are exploring innovative instruments such as green bonds to mobilise funds from a wider investor base.
At the grassroots level, access to affordable financing is equally critical. Rural communities adopting solar home systems or biogas plants often face significant cost barriers. IDCOL has addressed this by mobilising concessional finance, grants, and technical assistance — with strong government support — to ensure renewable solutions are within reach. So far, we have financed the installation of 71,000 biogas plants and over four million Improved Cooking Stoves across the country, contributing to a reduction of 35 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
Our success stems from a unique community-based model, partnering with local NGOs, microfinance institutions, and other trusted Participating Organisations (POs) with strong rural networks. These partners handle outreach, installation, maintenance, and loan recovery, enabling us to reach even the most remote households. IDCOL resumes financing for Solar Irrigation Pumps with Signing ceremony
Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) has officially resumed its financing support for Solar Irrigation Pumps (SIPs) with a renewed strategy and structure, marking a significant step toward decarbonizing Bangladesh’s agricultural sector. To commemorate this milestone, IDCOL hosted a signing ceremony on 14 October 2025 at its Multipurpose Conference Hall in Dhaka.
The event celebrated IDCOL’s partnership with WAVE Foundation, which has received approval of BDT 34.9 crore in financing, supported by KfW, Germany, for the implementing 56 SIPs, including 39 grid-integrated sites across Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, and Kushtia. This initiative aligns with the government’s mandate to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
Mr. Alamgir Morshed, Executive Director & CEO of IDCOL, delivered welcome remarks, highlighting IDCOL’s long-term commitment to deploying 10,000 SIPs by 2030. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Michael Sumser-Hellstern, Director of the KfW office in Bangladesh, as a special guest. Other distinguished guests on stage included Engr. Md. The program featured a presentation on SIPs, experience sharing by WAVE Foundation, and remarks from guests, followed by the formal signing ceremony. Mr. S. M. Monirul Islam, Deputy CEO & CFO at IDCOL, concluded the event with a vote of thanks, reaffirming IDCOL’s dedication to fostering inclusive, climate-resilient development.
With 1,495 SIPs already financed, representing 42% of the market share, IDCOL continues to lead the transition toward clean energy in agriculture. These solar-powered pumps are directly irrigating over 34,445 hectares of land during the paddy season, benefiting more than 70,000 farmers across the country. By replacing approximately 17,234 diesel-powered pumps, IDCOL’s initiative is significantly reducing carbon emissions, lowering irrigation costs for farmers, and contributing to a more sustainable and energy-secure future for Bangladesh’s agriculture. Clean cooking innovation: IDCOL launches ICS testing lab at BUET
Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) and the Department of Chemical Engineering (DChE) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has inaugurated the IDCOL–DChE, BUET ICS Laboratory.
The event, held at the BUET campus on Tuesday, was attended by Alamgir Morshed, executive director and CEO of IDCOL; Md Enamul Karim Pavel, head of Renewable Energy at IDCOL; Professor Shoeb Ahmed, PhD, head of the Department of Chemical Engineering; and Professor Md Mominur Rahman, PhD, along with faculty members, students, and senior officials from both institutions.
The newly established laboratory is designed to assess particulate and gaseous emissions, energy efficiency, safety, and durability of cookstoves following ISO 19867-1:2018 Harmonized Laboratory Test Protocols for clean cookstoves and clean cooking solutions, read a press release.
The collaboration between IDCOL and BUET aims to develop a globally recognised testing facility in Bangladesh. Once ISO-certified, the lab will also support carbon credit registration for clean cooking projects nationwide.
This initiative represents a major milestone under IDCOL’s Improved Cook Stove (ICS) Programme, which is focused on reducing indoor air pollution, improving public health, and lowering carbon emissions.
Since its launch in 2013, the programme has distributed over four million ICS units across rural households in Bangladesh.

বাংলাদেশে বিদ্যুৎ অবকাঠামো, টেলিযোগাযোগ, কৃষি, নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানি, সড়ক ও পরিবেশে বিপুল পরিমাণ বিনিয়োগ করেছে ইডকল। এসব খাতের বাইরে ইডকলের নতুন বিনিয়োগ পরিকল্পনা কী?
ইডকল প্রতিষ্ঠালগ্ন থেকেই যে খাতগুলো দীর্ঘমেয়াদে উন্নয়নমূলক প্রভাব তৈরি করে, সেই খাতগুলোয় বিনিয়োগ করছে। আমাদের ইনভেস্টমেন্ট ডিপার্টমেন্ট ২০৩০ সালের মধ্যে প্রায় ১১ হাজার ৫০০ কোটি টাকা বিতরণের লক্ষ্য নিয়েছে, যার মধ্যে গ্রিন ট্রান্সপোর্ট, আইসিটি, সিএমএসএমই, স্টার্টআপ ও রিয়েল এস্টেটের মতো পাঁচটি নতুন খাত আছে।
অন্যদিকে আমাদের রিনিউয়েবল এনার্জি ডিপার্টমেন্ট প্রায় ২৯ হাজার ৫০০ কোটি টাকা বিনিয়োগের লক্ষ্য নিয়েছে। চলমান রুফটপ সোলার, গ্রিড-টাইড আইপিপি ও সোলার সেচ প্রকল্প ছাড়াও তারা ১০টি নতুন উদ্যোগ হাতে নিয়েছে, যেমন ফ্লোটিং সোলার, উইন্ড পাওয়ার, ওয়েস্ট-টু-এনার্জি, এগ্রো-পিভি, উপকূলীয় বনায়ন (জলবায়ু অভিযোজন), ইলেকট্রিক ভেহিকল, সোলার কোল্ড স্টোরেজ, চার্জিং স্টেশন ও ছোট দ্বীপে সৌরবিদ্যুৎ সরবরাহ।
এ বহুমাত্রিক পরিকল্পনা বাংলাদেশে টেকসই অর্থায়নের শীর্ষ প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে ইডকলকে আরো শক্ত অবস্থানে নিয়ে যাবে।
অন্তর্বর্তী সরকার ক্ষমতা গ্রহণের পর স্থানীয় ও বিদেশী বিনিয়োগে উৎসাহ দিচ্ছে। সরকারের এ উৎসাহে ইডকল নতুন বিনিয়োগে কী ধরনের পলিসি নিয়েছে?
সরকারের এ অগ্রাধিকার আমাদের কৌশলগত পরিকল্পনার (স্ট্র্যাটেজিক প্ল্যান) সঙ্গে সংগতিপূর্ণ। ইডকল এখন পলিসি অ্যালাইন্ড অর্থায়নকে গুরুত্ব দিচ্ছে, বিশেষত নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানি, টেকসই অবকাঠামো ও সবুজ পরিবহনে। পাশাপাশি আমরা বন্ড ইস্যু, বিদেশী ক্রেডিট লাইন ও ব্লেন্ডেড ফাইন্যান্সের মতো আধুনিক অর্থায়ন মডেল তৈরি করছি, যাতে বিদেশী বিনিয়োগ আসার পাশাপাশি স্থানীয় উদ্যোক্তাদের জন্যও খরচ কমানো যায়। আমরা ঝুঁকি ভাগাভাগির অংশীদার হিসেবে প্রকল্পগুলোকে বিনিয়োগযোগ্য করে তুলতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখছি।

এখন পর্যন্ত ইডকল ১৬৫ মেগাওয়াট রুফটপ সোলার, ৩৩৩ মেগাওয়াট গ্রিড-টাইড আইপিপি, ১ হাজার ৪৯৫টি সোলার সেচ পাম্প, ৭১ হাজার বায়োগ্যাস প্লান্ট এবং ৪১ লাখ উন্নত চুলায় অর্থায়ন করেছে।
আগামী দিনে রিনিউয়েবল এনার্জি ডিপার্টমেন্টের লক্ষ্য হলো প্রায় ২৯ হাজার ৫০০ কোটি টাকা বিনিয়োগ। এর মাধ্যমে ৩ দশমিক ২ গিগাওয়াট রুফটপ সোলার, ২ দশমিক ১ গিগাওয়াট গ্রিড-টাইড সোলার ও উইন্ড, এক কোটি পরিবারের জন্য উন্নত চুলা এবং ১০ হাজার সোলার সেচ পাম্প বাস্তবায়িত হবে।
এছাড়া আমরা ১০টি নতুন উদ্যোগ চালু করছি যেমন ফ্লোটিং সোলার, এগ্রো-পিভি, ওয়েস্ট-টু-এনার্জি, ইলেকট্রিক ভেহিকল, সোলার কোল্ড স্টোরেজ ইত্যাদি। আমরা ঝুঁকি কমানো, স্বল্পসুদে ঋণ এবং আন্তর্জাতিক জলবায়ু অর্থায়ন কাজে লাগিয়ে উদ্যোক্তাদের জন্য নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানিকে লাভজনক ও আকর্ষণীয় করে তুলছি।
ইডকলের মাধ্যমে বিদেশী বিভিন্ন দাতা সংস্থা অর্থায়ন করছে। প্রায় তিন দশক হলো প্রতিষ্ঠানটির যাত্রা। এ যাত্রায় বিদেশী বিনিয়োগ পেতে ইডকল নতুন কোনো চালেঞ্জ দেখছে কিনা?
সুশাসন ও ভালো ট্র্যাক রেকর্ডের কারণে উন্নয়ন অংশীদাররা এখনো ইডকলের ওপর আস্থা রাখছে। তবে বৈশ্বিক পুঁজিবাজার বর্তমানে কিছুটা জটিল। সুদের হার বৃদ্ধি, কঠোর যাচাই-বাছাই এবং বাড়তি ইএসজি মানদণ্ড এখন নতুন বাস্তবতা। এ পরিস্থিতিতে ইডকল ক্লাইমেট ফান্ড, ডিএফআই, শেয়ারবাজার ও কার্বন ফাইন্যান্সসহ বিভিন্ন উৎস থেকে তহবিল সংগ্রহের চেষ্টা করছে। একই সঙ্গে আমরা ইমপ্যাক্ট মেজারমেন্ট ও রিপোর্টিংকে শক্তিশালী করছি, যাতে প্রতিটি ডলার বিনিয়োগের প্রভাব সুস্পষ্টভাবে প্রদর্শন করা যায়।

আমাদের লক্ষ্য হলো ২০৩০ সালের মধ্যে ঋণ পোর্টফোলিও ২৩ হাজার কোটি টাকায় উন্নীত করা, যেখানে অবকাঠামো ও নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানির অনুপাত হবে প্রায় সমান (অবকাঠামো ৫১ ও নবায়নযোগ্য ৪৯ শতাংশ)। স্থানীয় বিনিয়োগ বাড়াতে আমরা দেশীয় বন্ড ইস্যু, সিএমএসএমই অর্থায়ন এবং স্থানীয় ব্যাংক ও আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর সঙ্গে অংশীদারত্বের উদ্যোগ নিচ্ছি। প্রতিটি বৈদেশিক বিনিয়োগকে আমরা ক্যাটালিস্ট হিসেবে কাজে লাগাতে চাই, যাতে তার বহুগুণ পুঁজি বিনিয়োগ হয়।
IDCOL stresses affordable credit, skills for CMSME growth
IDCOL and SME Foundation hosted a discussion, "Unlocking CMSME Potential: Bridging the Gaps," focused on challenges faced by Bangladesh's cottage, micro, small, and medium enterprises (CMSMEs).
In his welcome remarks, IDCOL CEO Alamgir Morshed emphasised the sector's critical role in the economy. "CMSMEs contribute 25 per cent of GDP and employ over 34 million people, yet they face a financing gap of more than USD 73 billion (about Tk 9 lakh crore)," he said. "They are the backbone of our economy, crucial for resilience and job creation. IDCOL, with two decades of experience in sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy, and inclusive finance, is committed to ensuring CMSMEs gain access to affordable credit, capacity building, and stronger market linkages."
The discussion brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including entrepreneurs, banks, NBFIs, MFIs, PKSF, the Bangladesh Bank, the SME Foundation, the Ministry of Industries, the Microcredit Regulatory Authority, BSCIC, and development partners. Participants shared their perspectives on financing constraints, regulatory gaps, skills development, and market access. Together, they identified collaborative solutions for sustainable growth.IDCOL confirmed its commitment to supporting the textile industry with low-interest loans, technical help, and policy advice to promote sustainable growth.

IDCOL has organized a comprehensive two-day training program aimed at accelerating the adoption of rooftop solar energy among industries in Bangladesh. The training focused on the opportunities and financing mechanisms available to promote renewable energy in the industrial sector, aligning with the nation’s goal of generating 40% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

ঢাকার জীববৈচিত্র্য পুনরুদ্ধার ও নগর পরিবেশ উন্নয়নে বিভিন্ন প্রজাতির ১৬০০ বৃক্ষ রোপন করা হয়েছে। ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি কর্পোরেশন উদ্যোগে মঙ্গলবার (২৩ সেপ্টেম্বর) রাজধানীর দিয়াবাড়িতে এসব বৃক্ষ রোপন করা হয়।
গ্রিন সেভার্স এর আয়োজনে এবং ইনফ্রাস্ট্রাকচার ডেভেলপমেন্ট কোম্পানি লিমিটেড (ইডকল), ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি কর্পোরেশন এবং বন অধিদপ্তর এর সহযোগিতায় বৃক্ষরোপণ কর্মসূচি বাস্তবায়ন করা হয়।

তিনি আরও বলেন, জেন্ডার মেইনস্ট্রিমিং এর মাধ্যমে একটি ইনক্লুসিভ শহর গড়তে সিটি কর্পোরেশনের পক্ষ থেকে হিজরা জনগোষ্ঠীর ব্যবসার সুযোগ তৈরি করা হচ্ছে।
প্রশাসক জানান, যারা ব্যক্তিগতভাবে বৃক্ষরোপণ করেন তাদের জন্য ‘গাছের ডাক্তার’ নামে একটি বিশেষ উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে। পাশাপাশি ঢাকায় একটি ট্রি মিউজিয়াম গড়ে তোলার পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে এবং নগরীর আরবান বায়োডাইভারসিটি হটস্পটগুলো সংরক্ষণের উদ্যোগ গ্রহণ করা হয়েছে।স্বাগত বক্তব্যে বন অধিদপ্তরের ঢাকা বিভাগের বিভাগীয় বন কর্মকর্তা মাহমুদা রোকসানা সুলতানা বলেন, 'আমতলি থেকে গুলশান ১ পর্যন্ত বৃক্ষরোপণ ও মাটির সংরক্ষণ কার্যক্রম সম্পন্ন করা হয়েছে। পাশাপাশি বাউনিয়া খালের চারপাশেও বৃক্ষরোপণ করা হয়েছে। ঢাকাকে সবুজে ঢেকে দেয়ার উদ্দেশ্যে আমাদের এসব কার্যক্রম চলমান থাকবে।'
অনুষ্ঠানে বন অধিদপ্তরের বন সংরক্ষক হুসাইন মোহাম্মদ নিশাদ, উপপ্রধান বন সংরক্ষক মোহাম্মদ মঈনুদ্দিন খান, ইডকলের চিফ রিস্ক অফিসার মোহাম্মদ জাভেদ ইকবাল এবং ইডকলের এক্সিকিউটিভ ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট রায়হান উদ্দিন উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
বৃক্ষরোপণ কর্মসূচিতে মোট ১,৬০০টি গাছ রোপণ করা হয়। এর মধ্যে রয়েছে জারুল, সোনালু, করবী, চন্দ্রপ্রভা ও টগর।
উল্লেখ্য, অনুষ্ঠানে সবুজ ঢাকা গড়ার লক্ষ্যে এ কার্যক্রম নিয়মিতভাবে অব্যাহত রাখার প্রত্যাশা ব্যক্ত করা হয়।
ঢাকার জীববৈচিত্র্য পুনরুদ্ধার ও নগর পরিবেশ উন্নয়নে বিভিন্ন প্রজাতির ১৬০০ বৃক্ষরোপণ করা হয়েছে। ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনের (ডিএনসিসি) উদ্যোগে ৫ লাখ বৃক্ষরোপণ কর্মসূচির অংশ হিসেবে তা রোপণ করা হয়েছে।

পাশাপাশি বাউনিয়া খালের চারপাশেও বৃক্ষরোপণ করা হয়েছে। ঢাকাকে সবুজে ঢেকে দেওয়ার উদ্দেশ্যে আমাদের এসব কার্যক্রম চলমান থাকবে।অনুষ্ঠানে বন অধিদপ্তরের বন সংরক্ষক হুসাইন মোহাম্মদ নিশাদ, উপপ্রধান বন সংরক্ষক মোহাম্মদ মঈনুদ্দিন খান, ইডকলের চিফ রিস্ক অফিসার মোহাম্মদ জাভেদ ইকবাল এবং ইডকলের এক্সিকিউটিভ ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট রায়হান উদ্দিন উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

রাষ্ট্রায়ত্ত আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠান ইনফ্রাস্ট্রাকচার ডেভেলপমেন্ট কোম্পানি লিমিটেড (ইডকল) বিগত ২০২৪-২৫ অর্থবছরের মুনাফা থেকে সরকারকে ৫০ কোটি টাকা লভ্যাংশ দিয়েছে। এ উপলক্ষে সম্প্রতি এক অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করা হয়। এ সময় অর্থ উপদেষ্টা সালেহউদ্দিন আহমেদের কাছে লভ্যাংশের চেক হস্তান্তর করেন অর্থনৈতিক সম্পর্ক বিভাগের (ইআরডি) সচিব ও ইডকলের চেয়ারম্যান মো. শাহ্রিয়ার কাদের ছিদ্দিকী এবং অর্থ বিভাগের সচিব ও ইডকলের পরিচালক ড. মো. খায়েরুজ্জামান মজুমদার। অনুষ্ঠানে আরো উপস্থিত ছিলেন ইডকলের নির্বাহী পরিচালক ও সিইও আলমগীর মোরসেদ, ডেপুটি সিইও ও সিএফও এসএম মনিরুল ইসলাম, চিফ ইনভেস্টমেন্ট অফিসার নাজমুল হক, হেড অব রিনিউয়েবল এনার্জি মো. এনামুল করিম পাভেল, কোম্পানি সচিব এম মফতুন আহমেদ এবং ইভিপি (করপোরেট অ্যাফেয়ার্স) নাজমুল হক ফয়সল।
State-owned Infrastructure Development Company Ltd (IDCOL) has paid a dividend of Tk50 crore to the government from its profits for the fiscal year 2024.
The dividend cheque was officially handed over to Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed at the Ministry of Finance by senior officials of IDCOL.
Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary of the Economic Relations Division and Chairman of IDCOL, and Dr Khairuzzaman Mozumder, Director at IDCOL and Secretary of the Finance Division, played key roles in presenting the dividend.
Dr Salehuddin Ahmed lauded IDCOL's pioneering role in financing renewable energy, infrastructure, and energy efficiency projects, describing the institution as a driving force behind inclusive and sustainable financing in Bangladesh.
The event was attended by prominent IDCOL representatives including Alamgir Morshed, executive director and chief executive officer; S M Monirul Islam, deputy CEO and chief financial officer; Nazmul Haque, chief investment officer; Md Enamul Karim Pavel, head of renewable energy; M Maftun Ahmed, company secretary; and Nazmul Haque Faisal, executive vice president, corporate affairs.
The dividend payment reflects IDCOL's ongoing commitment to catalyzing positive change through strategic investments in key sectors, setting an example for sustainable development and inclusive growth across the country.

For instance, the Green Deal of the Year was awarded for managing a $20 million fund under the Malawi Electricity Access Project, contributing to Malawi's growth in the off-grid energy market in East Africa.
Additionally, the recognition for the Project Infrastructure Finance Deal of the Year acknowledges Idcol's funding of a 115 MW Independent Power Plant in Northern Bangladesh, expected to benefit over 500,000 households and businesses.
Idcol's impact extends to the Domestic Project Finance Bank of the Year award, recognizing its financing of a Solar Park in Sirajganj, set to reduce over 73,800 tons of CO₂ annually.
The institution also received the Green Financing Bank of the Year award for its contributions to industrial decarbonization through the Solar Rooftop Program, financing 48 rooftop projects totaling 163 MWp across various sectors.

বিদ্যুৎ, জ্বালানি ও খনিজ সম্পদবিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয়ের উপদেষ্টা মুহাম্মদ ফাওজুল কবির খান বলেছেন, ‘দেশে বিদ্যুৎ ও জ্বালানি খাতের মূল সমস্যা হলো এখানে প্রতিযোগিতা ছিল না। জ্বালানি নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করতে খাতটিতে উন্মুক্ত প্রতিযোগিতাচর্চায় বিশেষ গুরুত্ব দেয়া হচ্ছে।’
গতকাল এফবিসিসিআইয়ের মতিঝিল কার্যালয়ে আয়োজিত ‘পাওয়ার অ্যান্ড এনার্জি সিনারিও ইন বাংলাদেশ: এনসিওরিং এনার্জি সিকিউরিটি ফর ডেভেলপমেন্ট’ শীর্ষক সেমিনারে তিনি এ কথা বলেন।
প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে উপদেষ্টা বলেন, ‘অন্তর্বর্তী সরকার দায়িত্ব নেয়ার পর বিদ্যুৎ ও জ্বালানি খাতে আমরা প্রতিযোগিতা প্রতিষ্ঠার চেষ্টা করছি। এরই মধ্যে উন্মুক্ত দরপত্রের মাধ্যমে কিছু মৌলিক জ্বালানি কেনার পদক্ষেপ নেয়া হয়েছে। সেক্ষেত্রে প্রতিযোগিতামূলক দামে জ্বালানি কেনার সুযোগ পাওয়া যাচ্ছে।’
দেশের বিদ্যুৎ খাতে বার্ষিক ভর্তুকির পরিমাণ প্রায় ৩২ হাজার কোটি টাকা। আর জ্বালানি খাতে বার্ষিক ভর্তুকির পরিমাণ প্রায় ২০ হাজার কোটি টাকা। এমন তথ্য জানিয়ে মুহাম্মদ ফাওজুল কবির খান বলেন, ‘সব সরকারের আমলেই দেশে মৌলিক জ্বালানির উন্নয়ন অবহেলিত ছিল, যার প্রভাব পড়েছে বিদ্যুৎসহ সমগ্র জ্বালানি খাতে।’
সভাপতির বক্তব্যে এফবিসিসিআইয়ের প্রশাসক হাফিজুর রহমান বলেন, ‘দেশে জ্বালানি নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করতে হলে ব্যাপক হারে কয়লা ও গ্যাসের কূপ খনন করতে হবে। বিদ্যুৎ ও গ্যাসের সিস্টেম লস নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে হবে। একক জ্বালানিনির্ভরতা কমিয়ে আনাসহ নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানির ব্যবহার বাড়াতে হবে।’
সেমিনারে কনজিউমার্স অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের জ্বালানি উপদেষ্টা ড. এম শামসুল আলম বলেন, ‘দেশে জ্বালানি নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিতকরণে বাংলাদেশ এনার্জি রেগুলেটরি কমিশনের সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি এবং সংস্কার বাস্তবায়ন জরুরি।’
ইনফ্রাস্ট্রাকচার ডেভেলপমেন্ট কোম্পানি লিমিটেডের (ইডকল) নির্বাহী পরিচালক ও সিইও মো. আলমগীর মোর্শেদ বলেন, ‘সাশ্রয়ী ও সহজলভ্য জ্বালানি পেতে হলে আমাদের অবশ্যই নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানি উৎপাদনে যেতে হবে।’
এক্ষেত্রে নেট মিটারিং সোলার সিস্টেম বড় সুফল বয়ে আনতে পারে বলে জানান টেকসই ও নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানি উন্নয়ন কর্তৃপক্ষের (স্রেডা) চেয়ারম্যান খোন্দকার মো. আব্দুল হাই।
